Federal government mandates that every incoming refugee family receives ONE ethnically-appropriate meal upon their arrival to USA and some fresh food to tide them over until they are able to get their feet on the ground. While this is supposed to be done by the resettlement agencies, we have found that this service is at times overlooked, leaving families without food for days to weeks and no idea where to get it, compounding an already difficult period of transition.
The recommended meal is simple: Rotisserie chicken*, rice, vegetables, pita bread, fruit juice.
Meal can be fresh. Store-bought. Precooked. From frozen. Doesn't matter.
